Afrika Connexions

Afrika Connexions is more than a radio show — it’s a legacy that has carried the voice of Africa across Australian airwaves for over three decades.

Born in the 1980s on Radio Skid Row, this program emerged as a radical anti-apartheid beacon, run by the Pan African Congress of Azania in fierce solidarity with the struggle for freedom and justice. As history unfolded and Nelson Mandela walked free, as the ANC rose to government, Afrika Connexions evolved alongside these momentous changes, blossoming into a vibrant pan-African platform where presenters from every corner of the continent weave together the music, stories, and news that bind African communities in Australia to the beating heart of home.

The year 2019 brought fresh winds of change as a new generation of broadcasters stepped up to the microphone, breathing new life into the program with contemporary music, fearless discussions, and sharp perspectives on the issues shaping African life both in Australia and across the globe.

Through all its transformations, Afrika Connexions tenderly honors the pioneers who laid its foundation. Among these trailblazers stands ‘Hindi’ (Henderson Vaughn) from Barbados — founding member, devoted broadcaster, and cherished comrade whose spirit continues to animate every transmission, even after his passing in 2018. His unwavering commitment and infectious passion echo through each program, inspiring every voice that follows.

Every Sunday from 12pm to 3pm, the studio transforms into a pocket of Africa nestled in the heart of Sydney. Here, the sound pulses with life, conversation flows like a river, and connections span continents with authentic warmth. In this sacred space, the legacy lives on.

Hamba Kahle, Bra Hindi.
