Born in Mozambique, Mingas began singing at a young age in her church. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s she had great success as a lead vocalist for the Orchestra Star de Mozambique and also toured the world as a support singer for Miriam Makeba.

This song, written by Fany Mfumo – also from Mozambique – is about his longing for the women in Mozambique during his time in South Africa. The title translates as ‘the women here’, which at first makes you wonder what was so wrong with South African women? But when you listen to the song, performed by a woman from Mozambique, you can hear what all the fuss is about.
