Over the years Afrika Connexions has interviewed some of Africa’s most prominent figures.Musicians such as Hugh Masakela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo appeared on the program, as did performers and actors such as Kenyan, WanjikeWa Kiarie and South African, John Kani. Notable political guests included the Women’s Coordinator of the PAC, Maude Jackson, Patricia De Lille, who is now mayor of Cape Town and Johnson Mlambo and Gora Ibrahim, both of whom served as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs for the PAC.
These people embodied the programs musical and political philosophy, often talking about how their personal experiences and the political struggles of their people greatly influenced their artistic and political endeavors. As good as their answers are, the questions asked by presenters are just as important. From Neville Legg’s consistent acknowledgement of the struggles of our own Indigenous people to Paul Thusi’s singing with Burning Spear (or anyone else who would sing with him), these interviews are a testament to the unique lives and cultural intelligence of the hosts of Afrika Connexions.
